Introduction To Tungsten Inert Gas Shieled Welding Gas (TIG)

Objectives:

To provide delegates with the necessary skills, knowledge and safe working practices to be able to produce welded joints in a variety of    materials using the Tungsten Inert Gas Process.

Course Duration:

5 Days

Pre-course requirements:

Delegates do not necessarily need to have prior experience of the TIG process but should have an understanding of workplace health & safety.

    Gas control
    Selection of tungsten
    Selection of polarity
    Adjustment of arc length

  • Preparation
  • Preparation of the material for welding ensuring that it is clean and the preparation Is straight, using the bench or angle grinder to correct if required
    Choice of appropriate conditions
    Choice of an appropriate technique
Setting up the job safely and to minimise welding difficulties & distortion
  • Practical
  • Demonstration and individual practice of welded  joints using mild steel plate of various thickness:

  • Inspection and Assessment
  • To visually examine the weld for:
    Penetration
    Porosity
    Undercutting
    Imperfections
Recognition of the causes of imperfections and identification of corrective action

Outcomes:

Successful completion of the course will result in the issue of a SETA  certificate of completion.
