Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMA)

Objectives:
To provide delegates with the necessary skills, knowledge and safe working practices to extend their range of skills to include complex joints and welding positions using the manual metal arc process.
Course Duration:
5 Days
Pre-course requirements:-
Delegates should have either completed the Introduction to Manual Metal Arc course or possess prior experience of the MMA process and have an understanding of workplace health & safety.
Programme:
- Review of good work practices
- Personal Safety
- Use of protective clothing appropriate to the process to be undertaken i.e. goggles, gloves, aprons etc.
Isolation procedures for electrical systems
- Remedial action in the event of burns
- Routine inspection of electrical cables and fittings
- Action in the event of arc eye - Equipment
- Safe setting up and operation of welding equipment to include:
- Connection of power source to mains socket
- Connection of secondary cables
- Care and selection of electrodes
- Checking of system for safe use
- Demonstration and explanation of the effects of:
- Different arc lengths
- Variation of speeds of travel
- Different levels of current (amp) settings
