WHAT ARE APPRENTICESHIPS?

Apprenticeships are nationally recognised work based learning programmes specifically designed to meet the requirements of different occupations.

Apprenticeships are available in all occupational areas e.g. Administration, Engineering, Motor Vehicle etc.

APPRENTICESHIP LEVELS

There are three levels of apprenticeship:

Young Apprenticeship - aimed  at 14-16 year olds - duration two years leading to Level 2 NVQ

Apprenticeship - duration approximately 24 months, qualification Level NVQ 23 suitable for non-complex jobs

Advanced Apprenticeship - duration approximately 42 months, qualification levels NVQ 2 and NVQ 3 suitable for more complex jobs.

NATIONAL VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

What are they and what levels are available:

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s) are a set of work-based competencies which recognises an individual’s ability to carry out a particular job to national standards.

NVQ’s are vocational awards that are achieved through a combination of training and assessment.
