This is an externally examined basic qualification designed to help non-specialists to discharge more effectively their duties or functions in workplace health and safety.

This is offered as an open course at our Conference Centre, or it can be run in-company.

Who will benefit from this course?

Anyone who has an interest in Health & Safety who has work related to Health & Safety responsibilities or is looking to work in the Health & Safety sector

Pre-course requirements:

No previous health & safety knowledge is required although it is advisable that learners have a basic understanding of the aspects of Health & Safety

NEBOSH suggests that those taking this qualification should have a minimum English proficiency level equivalent to an IETS score of 6.0 or higher.

Course Content:

Unit GNC1: Management of Health & Safety

Elements:

1: Why we should manage workplace health and safety

2: How health and safety management systems work and what they look like

3: Managing risk – understanding people and process

4: Health and safety monitoring and measuring.

Unit GNC2: Risk Assessment

Elements:

5: Physical and psychological health Element

6: Musculoskeletal health

7: Chemical and biological agents

8: General workplace issues

9: Work equipment

10: Fire

11: Electricity

Duration & Assessment:

This is a 10-day study course with 1 examination day.

Unit GNC1 – Open Book Examination (24 hours)

Unit GNC2 – A practical assessment to be carried out in your workplace (or other workplace) and submitted to NEBOSH in the same way as the GNC1 examination. This must be submitted on or before 10 working days from the GNC2 examination date

Certification:

A NEBOSH certificate will be issued to learners who have successfully completed the course and assessments

How is this qualification recognised?
The NEBOSH National General Certificate meets the academic requirements for Technician membership (TechIOSH) of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

The NEBOSH National General Certificate is accredited at Level 3 within the National Qualification Framework (NQF) by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland.
