There are many different routes available for young people interested in engineering, from taking a vocational qualification at school or college,  starting out as an engineering apprentice with a company, or embarking on an undergraduate degree programme.

One route may well lead to another, as apprentices may subsequently gain sponsorship from their employer to attend University and gain further qualifications. The main benefit of starting with apprenticeship is that training is often paid for by employer and the apprentice receives full wage while in training. Because apprentices are undergoing practical as well as classroom training, and subjects are relevant to actual positions held within company, they gain the experience highly valued by employers.

Once initially qualified, engineers frequently go on to achieve a professional qualification or ‘chartered status’ which can support them in progressing further with their careers and increasing their earnings potential.

SETA – Growing the Next Generation of Engineers.

SETA has been training apprentices since 1966 and is passionate about helping young people succeed in engineering.

We have trained 5000 plus apprentices in this time. We endeavour to produce “Rolls Royce” apprentices.

Each year we recruit, enrol and train engineering apprentices who will be employed in technical and manufacturing roles with a diverse range of employers.

All SETA apprentices gain full-time employment with local and national companies such as Jacobs, McVities and NXP.

Apprentices are given a strong foundation in engineering through practical and theoretical training, undertaking the BTEC Level 3 diploma at SETA amongst a number of recognised qualifications. The centres excellent facilities and experienced staff train engineers in manufacturing, electrical, operations and maintenance, welding, fitting and design disciplines.

SETA helped employers who never recruited apprentices before develop effective apprenticeship programs. Many of those apprentices have gone on to become managers in those companies or won prestigious national industry awards and scholarships.
