SETA Santa Dash a Success!
Nearly 50 apprentices dressed as Santas or wearing festive outfits, competed in the SETA Santa Dash on Friday 14th of December. In relentless rain showers, the apprentices ran (and walked) the 2-mile course around the track and Woodbank Park, Stockport. The event was in aid of SETA’s partner charity ‘When you wish upon a Star’ which raises money for terminally ill children in the UK; SETA is on track to raising its target of £700 with each apprentice having raised at least £10 through sponsorship donations.
Despite the torrential conditions, all the apprentices completed the race and there were some great performances with Greg Mellor(LaFarge) winning the race, Michael Cassidy(Honeywell Controls) in second place and Joel Bardon(Mono Pumps) in third position. Each year SETA supports a different charity, this year SETA backing ‘When you wish upon a Star’. SETA hosted the Santa Dash on Friday with the aim of raising an additional £700 to send one more child to Lapland to see Father Christmas; SETA raised funds to send 4 children to Lapland in a charity walk in October 2012.
Russell Prince, the CEO of SETA was delighted by the event stating that:
“When the apprentices started at SETA in September I gave them the challenge of raising enough money to send two children to Lapland for our partner charity ‘When you wish upon a Star’. I was delighted that we exceeded this target in our Charity walk in October by raising £2800 and our Santa Dash is on target to raise enough money to send an additional child to Lapland. The apprentices truly committed themselves at the Santa Dash on Friday to raise funds for youngsters that are less fortunate than themselves. Well done to all the learners and staff at SETA for their fantastic effort and support!”
Thank you to Alan Dilkes at Stockport Harriers for assisting in the organisation of the event. An additional thanks to Booker (www.booker.co.uk) for donation of a food and drinks hamper which will be raffled this week to raise additional funds for ‘When you wish upon a Star’.
