Staff at SETA have recently hosted our Schools Work Experience programme. Working alongside students from 8 local schools and colleges, we have been inundated with applicants, so much so that our usual two 1 week programmes had to be extended to three weeks!

Students from years 10 & 11 and the Sixth Form, were given the opportunity to experience welding, electrical circuitry and hand fitting gaining an insight into what it is like to be an engineer. The students, who had a high interest in the engineering sector had a great time at our Academy and left with certificates as proof of their experience along with items from their practical work that they can keep for many years to come as well as take to potential job interviews!

Some of our existing employed apprentices took some of the work experience learners through the basic engineering tasks encouraging peer on peer learning and aiding their development.

We liaise with many schools on a regular basis and you will usually find our School Liaison Officer Simon Artley working with young people at schools and careers events across Greater Manchester, Stockport and the High Peak.

Some quotes from our fantastic Work experience candidates:

“This week has been really informative, the teachers and staff have been really helpful”

“After coming on this Work Experience, I think engineering is the right career for me. I would recommend anyone to come to SETA if they are interested in Engineering”

“Some of the most important and useful things we have learned are new techniques and safety precautions”

“We got to use lots of different tools that we haven’t used before in school”

“I got to find out if engineering was what I expected before deciding if it was right for me, I particularly liked Welding and Hand fitting”

“I learned a lot about electrical theory and got to do basic household tasks like wiring a plug”

Well done to all of our participating students and thank you to all of the schools who took part in this work experience week, we enjoy having these work experience programmes, potentially inspiring tomorrows engineers.
