On Wednesday 5th April some of our BTEC Learners went to Bridgewater Hall in Manchester for a fantastic opportunity to see the feat of engineering this building actually is.

The Bridgewater Hall is a structure on ‘Giant Springs’

These allow the reduction of external noise and along with the insulation bearings, make the building Earthquake proof and well insulated from any external noise or vibrations. The building is mostly formed from solid, reinforced concrete, molded and cast like a vast sculpture. This allows it to have the acoustic Ideal of enormous density and mass.

This of course makes it a most interesting place to visit for any engineer! Our Guided tour took us into the crypt to see the bones of the building, a fascinating time was had by all.
