Stockport Engineering Training Association (SETA) has been helping young people start successful careers in engineering since 1966 and is one of the most established engineering training providers in the North West. SETA offers intermediate and advanced engineering apprenticeships in a range of engineering disciplines including Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance, Precision Manufaturing, Welding, Design and Project Engineering. Apprentices are trained to achieve the BTEC Level 3 at SETA along with practical and technical certificates. SETA currently has over 60 engineering apprentices based at its training centre at Stockport which are employed by a variety of local or national employers including Jacobs, Minigears, Monopums and NXP.
SETA has recently had a learning inspection and impressed the Inspectors across the board achieving Grade 2- Good in all areas: outcome for learners, quality of teaching, learning and assessment and effectiveness of leadership and management. This is an improvement since the last inspection and the engineering training centre continues to drive forward in the quality of training it offers its learners
SETA was specifically recognised by Ofsted for:
- “Learners’ success rates and qualifications achieved within planned timescales are high, and have improved each year over the past three years.”
- “Teaching and learning within practical workshops are particularly good, with the high expectations of trainers driving learners to achieve high levels of technical competence.”
- “Leaders’ clear strategic planning ensures that the training offered meets the needs of learners, employers and the industry very well.”
- “SETA has developed strong and effective links with the local community through its excellent engagement with employers for both apprenticeship training and private commercial work, and learners’ participation in local community projects enhances the positive links further.”
